Visual Effects 1 - Lesson 1

For this assignment, we focused mainly on Rigid Bodies of the Maya Dynamics system. The first video is a playblast of the scene. This is from the actual render camera and follows the motion of the ball. The second video is a failed render. I was having issues rendering this scene out for a while. Not only would it not render all the way, but it rendered from the wrong camera. But at least I had something to turn in.

What are you going to do?

Oh well. Overall this scene wasn't too bad. I had a little bit of trouble getting the balls to move fast enough through the scene, so I had to key gravity in a couple areas. It's pretty noticeable, but I tried to hide it. Also, at the very end of the scene when the ball is launched into the air, I feel that it moves too slow before hitting the rotating bowl.

  1. This project still makes me want a bowl of peas :), but I do like it, the textures make it fun and bright and all your motions and timing seem to be pretty good. The three little balls flying out of the cup just give it character and personality, something that not everyone will have in their own version. But I can agree that your ball (pea) in the end does have a little too much hang time before hitting the bowl, but we don't know what it's made from, if it's a light hollow ball filled with air it catching in the air like that could be normal and therefore perfectly fine. Again it's all the story you tell the audience ;)

  2. If only you could put a sound clip of sound slowing down with that last flying ball, it'd be perfect. xD ...a total shame the render didn't come out fully, I adore all of your quick textures and overall theme. Your balls turned out great in the play blast even though I was losing faith when that second hammer swung with the rate it had. Overall, pretty sexy. :D
